What Makes Them a Power Player
Community Engagement: Cross Timbers Roofing has a long history of community engagement and support. Starting in 2013, the company partnered with a local radio station and the local USO chapter to complete a project for an area military veteran. It then partnered with GAF's No Roof Left Behind program and installed not only a new roof on the contest winner's home but completed a whole home power washing, gutter replacement, landscape refresh and other small handyman services. Cross Timbers donated time, materials and labor to complete a new construction home roof to the area's first St. Jude Dream House and gifted an additional $10,000. In 2021, the company partnered with Field of Dreams Charity, which supports local Little League teams, with a $30,000 contribution and a total replacement of the local baseball team's picnic and party pavilion. Over the last 10 years, the company has donated to half a dozen other local charities and fundraisers.
"My employees are like family to me. It is gratifying to be able to watch them grow professionally and give their best to help each other rise to the challenges of each day."
—Chuck Glady, president, Cross Timbers Roofing
Company Culture: Cross Timbers works to make employees feel like part of a team. Employees enjoy company-paid health insurance, elective dental insurance coverage, HSAs, paid time off, paid holidays and a company-sponsored 401(k) plan with an employer matching contribution up to 4%. Each member also receives company-paid life and AD&D insurance. Many staff members are assigned an all-expense-paid company vehicle. A local credit union provides seminars, guidance and support for personal finances.
Discretionary awards for a job well done and year-end and holiday bonuses are also part of our staff's compensation structure. A new employee referral program comes with multiple bonuses based on how long the new employee stays with the company. New employees set 30/90/180/360-day goals, receiving a formal review at those benchmarks—reducing turnover by more than 98%. Management holds weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings, and staff members partake in multiple monthly industry events, trade groups, networking and other activities. These include family nights, golf outings, free staff lunches, holiday parties and craft brewery gatherings.
Technology: Technology has taken on greater importance to Cross Timbers, which utilizes digital record keeping, estimating and CMR. The company also uses GPS tech to track vehicle mileage, fuel usage and maintenance needs as well as staff driving trends and holds safety meetings on any unsafe driving trends noted. Overall, smart tech has allowed the company to service 40% more customers without adding staff; provided remote access to job records; and developed phone, email and text communication procedures. Meanwhile, job site drone photography captures before and after photos along with many marketing and commercial shoots.
Testimonial: "I am a discerning customer when it comes to quality, and Cross Timbers Roofing works hard to ensure I am completely satisfied." —Drew Holzwarth, president, Greenwood Homes
