More than 45,000 home building professionals filled the exhibit halls of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando as the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) hosted the NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS) Feb. 8-10, organizers reported.
“The attendance at this year’s show exceeded our expectations and reflects the enthusiasm of the home building industry to collaborate and discover the latest products and technology solutions for their customers,” said Geoff Cassidy, NAHB SVP of exhibitions and meetings. “Our top priority remained the safety of attendees and exhibitors throughout the show. We implemented a series of health measures [including on-site COVID-19 testing] that helped to ensure a safe and productive show.”
Exhibit space for IBS totaled 425,000 net square feet, where more than 800 exhibitors displayed the latest in building products and technology, organizers said.
IBS also featured education—more than 110 sessions led by experts on a wide range of industry topics—awards, events, home builder trends and more.
The Best of the IBS Awards received more than 200 entries in eight categories. Awards are given to exhibitors with a product or line that shows the best combination of innovation, design, functionality and usefulness to the builder and consumer, as reviewed by 24 industry and media judges.
NAHB members were able to enjoy some perks. That included coffee and donuts in the morning and happy hour in the afternoon at the NAHB HQ, which was also home to The NEXT Lounge, for networking opportunities.
There were also exclusive events for members. The Home Construction Industry Economic & Political Outlook, sponsored by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, featured guest speaker Rich Thau, president of Engagious, political updates from NAHB CEO Jerry Howard and the 2022 economic report from NAHB Chief Economist Dr. Robert Dietz.
Additionally, there was a discussion of how The House That SHE Built—an all-women-built showcase home in Utah—came together.
The NAHB Leading Suppliers Council, in collaboration with Professional Builder and Professional Remodeler magazines, unveiled the official show homes: The New American Home® 2022 and The New American Remodel® 2022.
NAHB said it worked closely with its official service contractor and the Orange County Convention Center to focus on sustainability.
“We’re really pleased with the turnout. We’re excited to have in-person meetings with our clients and be able to walk them around and show them our products,” said Nicole LeBlanc, shopper marketing manager for Builder Channel at Whirlpool Corporation. “We did a lot of product research leading up to the show and are excited to showcase that here.”
For those unable to attend—or who didn't get to see everything on-site—NAHB is offering IBS Express, a virtual broadcast on Feb. 24, from 1-4 p.m. ET, featuring exclusive IBS 2022 content, product demos, and interviews with industry, business, construction, design and sales experts. Access to the IBS Express broadcast is free for NAHB members and all IBS registrants and will be available until March 31.
The 2023 event is scheduled for Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
